A 2402 tape drive during a high-speed rewind. The tape was removed from the vacuum columns and the heads raised during this operation. Later tape drives kept the tape in the columns, which always amazed me. A small strip of metallic foil was stuck to the tape a few feet from each end so that the drive knew when to stop.
